PAYROLL MANAGER

Position Summary
The Payroll Manager leads the organization’s payroll operations, ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements. This role oversees payroll staff, systems, processes, reporting, and compliance while partnering with Human Resources, Finance, IT, Benefits, and organizational leadership. The ideal candidate takes ownership, solves problems proactively, and looks for ways to improve processes and the employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end to end, multi state payroll and ensure accurate and timely processing.
- Oversee payroll taxes, reporting, reconciliations, audits, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead, train, and develop payroll staff while promoting accountability, accuracy, and service.
- Partner with HR, Finance, IT, Benefits, vendors, and leadership on payroll related matters.
- Manage payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping systems and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and provide clear support to employees and leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive employee and payroll information.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years of progressive payroll experience.
- Experience managing end-to-end and multi-state payroll operations.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour, and employment regulations.
- Experience with payroll software, HRIS, and timekeeping systems.
- Leadership, supervisory, training, or mentoring experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving, and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience with ADP, Workday, UKG/Kronos, Paylocity, or similar systems.
- Experience with payroll system implementations, automation, integration, or process improvements

Culture & Reporting
The Payroll Manager reports directly to the CFO and works closely with HR, Finance, IT, Benefits, and other organizational leaders. The ideal candidate takes ownership, communicates proactively, solves problems, follows through, and looks for ways to improve processes and the employee experience.
