Mechanic – Job Description
Summary
The Mechanic diagnoses, corrects, and prevents mechanical and process‑related issues that
impact product quality and production performance. The role focuses on true root‑cause
analysis across interdependent machine variables, precise setup and alignment, targeted
mechanical adjustments, and clear documentation to keep lines running safely, efficiently,
and within specification.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform root‑cause diagnosis and corrective action on variables including width,
strand thickness, strand width bond, oscillation, edge condition, and weight per square
foot.
• Complete die setups (replace/flip) and verify alignment and setup integrity before
releasing to production.
• Identify, remove, and replace worn or failed mechanical and electrical components;
perform basic electrical diagnostics as needed.
• Evaluate and restore machine calibration and alignment; establish/standardize
setpoints and document changes.
• Support Operators during startups, changeovers, and troubleshooting to maintain
stable, compliant production.
• Partner with Quality to complete sample verification and weight‑per‑square‑foot
adjustments before production release.
• Execute and document preventive maintenance (inspection, lubrication, tightening)
and escalate risks to uptime or quality.
• Follow all safety procedures (including Lockout/Tagout) and maintain an orderly,
safe work area.
Skills, Tools & Qualifications:
• Mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting complex production equipment.
• Ability to perform structured root‑cause analysis (e.g., 5‑Why) and document
corrective actions.
• Proficient in reading mechanical drawings/schematics and using precision
measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, feeler gauges).
• Alignment capability using straightedges/squares and mechanical or laser alignment
tools.
• Basic electrical diagnostics (multimeter use, sensor/continuity checks) preferred.
• Skilled with hand/power tools (torque wrenches, impacts/drills, pullers) and Die
maintenance.
• Preferred experience using CMMS/work‑order systems for documentation and parts
tracking.
• Strong communication, documentation, and cross‑functional teamwork skills; able to
assist Operators and Quality.
• Prior machine maintenance experience required; industrial/manufacturing
environment preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred.
• Knowledge of safety practices and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
